In the late 1980ies, a team of Ukrainian filmmakers from the Science Film Studio in Kyiv made a series of film expeditions to remote parts of Siberia. Their forgotten film reels had been rediscovered in Kyiv in 2022, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was the starting point for a film essay that interrogates Russian imperialism, environmental destruction, and the ongoing oppression of indigenous peoples in Russia’s colonies.
